Mt. St. Helens isn't always easy to get to in the winter, however on those damp days some of the best things happen on the mountain. The sense of solitude, the empty road, and the chance encounter with an elk heard await.
During the winter, two of the five forest service and national monument buildings are open. They are amazing places to explore and learn about the history of the mountain and the surrounding area. They also give talks and educational classes to schools and those interested. You can quickly find yourself immersed and listening to one of the most wonderful lectures.
